Pisces Sun, Libra Moon: The Ringleader-Eminence of Exquisite Joy and Eternal Good Times

Combine the deeply imaginative nature of a Pisces Sun with the sociable instincts of an Libra Moon and you get a Sun/Moon pairing attuned to aesthetics, beauty, and harmony within both creative and interpersonal contexts. Astrologers Suzi and Charles Harvey write of this pairing:

You exude a wistful, intangible glamour, as if you were king or queen of the forest fairies incarnate, come to entice the clumsy mortals to a place exquisitely serene and joyful. You love people . . . and really come alive at parties.

Using the date of its release as its date of birth, the hit 1990 song “The Humpty Dance” by pioneering hip hop group Digital Underground is a Pisces Sun, Libra Moon. (Chart) You’ll find few examples of somebody or something that has done more “to liven up parties” than “The Humpty Dance”. Take a look at the video for the song to see just how live a party can get once a Pisces/Libra individual hits the scene:

Greg Jacobs aka “Shock G” aka “Mr. Humpty” in the above video, is obviously not a literal “king of the forest fairies incarnate”. He does, however, introduce himself as “the new fool in town whose sounds laid down by the Underground” which is roughly the same idea once you make some adjustments for what might be lost in translation.

Fortunately for any “clumsy mortals” who might have wandered upon Mr. Humpty and his exquisitely joyous underground entourage, the Pisces Sun, Libra Moon pairing is known for its social inclusiveness, graciously diplomatic ways, and essentially gentle nature. In All Around the Zodiac, astrologer Bill Tierney writes of this combination’s peace-loving demeanor:

Libra and Pisces are both known to have a soft spot in their hearts for those in need of sympathy and encouragement. These signs can put themselves in other people’s shoes long enough to induce deeper understanding and even compassion . . . Both signs being gentle spirits at heart, this combination knows how to be calming and soothingly supportive to those in need.

Demonstrating the hallmark Pisces/Libra sense of social inclusiveness, Mr. Humpty ends his song with an invitation to people of all races to join in the dance. He then finishes by proclaiming, “Lets get stupid!!!”, which can be translated as “Let’s have an exquisitely joyous, soothing, and serene time together!!!”, something the Pisces Sun, Libra Moon native is a natural at encouraging others to do.

You’ll find a disproportionate number of Pisces Sun, Libra Moon natives in the creative or artistic professions. Astrologer Jefferson Anderson says Pisces/Libra is often “drawn to the arts” and “has a natural understanding of form, beauty and aesthetics.” (Source) Mapmaker Geradus Mercator is a Pisces Sun, Libra Moon native whose beautifully artistic maps generated as much buzz among 16th century cartographers as the Humpty Dance has among 20th and 21st century hip hop aficionados. (Chart) Interestingly enough, Mercator’s maps were even frequently sampled by other cartographers in much the same that “the Humpty Dance” is now frequently sampled by other musicians.

Pisces Sun, Libra Moon is attuned to beauty. Pictured above: one of Mercator’s maps.

Commenting on his fun-loving reputation, Mr. Humpty warns us that he’s known to “sometimes get ridiculous, eating up all your crackers and licorice.” His Pisces Sun, Libra Moon astro-twin Mr. Mercator enjoyed a similarly robust reputation among 16th century high society. According to the Mercator biography The World of Geradus Mercator, “Mercator was a regular guest at official banquets and civic occasions. He was known as an entertaining and expansive guest who could be relied on to enliven a late night table.” (Source)

When not enlivening late night tables, the Pisces Sun, Libra Moon pairing can be found either working at or clowning around in collaborative projects with others. To illustrate: in this next set of photos Mercator is seen clowning around with his apprentice from the map-making underground Joducus Hondius. Below that is a photo of Shock G still in his Humpty Hump alter-ego doing the same with his then 19 year old apprentice (back up dancer) Tupac Shakur:

Pisces/Libra: the Funky Mapmakers and the Funky Trackmakers.

Eighteenth century composer Frederick Chopin and 20th century ballet dancer Rudolf Nurevey are also both Pisces Sun, Libra Moon individuals. Like Mercator’s maps and Mr. Humpty’s music, Chopin and Nurevey’s forms self-expression are as aesthetically pleasing today as they were when originally created.

While “The Humpty Dance” may have a ways to go before it’s considered the same level of revered art as Chopin’s compositions or Nurevey’s ballet performances, it did go multi-platinum and is one of the most widely sample songs of the last thirty years. In fact, its appeal has proven so broad that there’s now an entire genre of YouTube videos featuring “clumsy mortals enticed to a place exquisitely serene and joyful” by the song. (Source) There’s even a sub-genre of that genre of videos featuring people’s pets and animals who’ve been moved to an equally joyful place by its pulsating bassline and and wildly whimsical lyrical rhymes. This French Bulldog getting down to the song is but one example:

In addition to being so extraordinarily creative that it can entice members of multiple species to joyous self-expression, the Pisces Sun, Libra Moon native is usually deeply romantic. Astrologer Jefferson Anderson writes of this combination says this pairing is,”Capable of losing yourself altogether in love, in many respects you are the perfect partner. You know how to balance the give-and-take in a relationship”. (Source) For instance, poet Elizabeth Browning Barret is a Pisces Sun, Libra Moon known for being profound romantic. (Chart)

Pisces/Libras can usually see past things like race or economic background to see the universal threads that tie us all together. For instance, at first you might not think a Victorian era white woman like Mrs. Browning-Barret and a black rapper’s 1990s alter ego like Mr. Humpty would have too much in common.

Shock G as Humpty and his astro-twin Elizabeth Barrett Browning

If, however, you look beyond their demographic profiles you’ll notice number of meaningful similarities between the two. For starters, Mrs. Barrett-Browning and Mr. Humpty are both writers known for “being spunky and liking their rhymes funky”, to quote a line from “The Humpty Dance”. They also both share similarly all inclusive attitudes towards the key socio-political issues of their respective eras. Mr. Humpty famously ends his song by encouraging people of all nationalities to join together in “peace and humptiness” while Mrs. Browning-Barret was also quite comfortable with people of different backgrounds. According to an Ebony Magazine interview with her biographer Julia Markus, “Mrs. Barrett-Browning sincerely believed that she had African blood running through her veins.” (Source)

True to their Pisces/Libra astrological pedigrees, both Mr. Humpty and Mrs. Barrett-Browning share magically (Pisces) romantic (Libra) approaches to matters of the heart. Barrett-Browning once asked, “How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.”

Sun in Aquarius, Moon in Capricorn (Update): The Revolution Will Not be Leaderless

We’re in the middle of a Mercury Retrograde so for writers like myself it’s a time to “re”-vist, “re”-vise, and “re”-publish older articles. One of the first, and still one of the most popular, articles on this site is the profile of Aquarius Sun, Capricorn Moon native Michael C. Ruppert published last fall. (Original Article) If Mike Ruppert’s name doesn’t ring a bell, he was the former LAPD police officer who helped blow the whistle on the CIA’s involvement in narcotics trafficking during the 1980s. Watch the first few minutes of this clip to see Ruppert’s 1996 confrontation with then director of the CIA John Duetch:

The Aquarius Sun, Capricorn Moon combination is a great one for revolutionaries as it combines the humanitarian identity of an Aquarius Sun with the strategic instincts of a Capricorn Moon. Astrologer Bill Tierney writes of this combination’s social leanings:

Those of us with these energies highlighted in our charts are very much activists at heart . . . We’re willing to become involved in community affairs by supporting groups and organizations that bravely advocate fresh ideals that challenge mainstream thinking and social conformity. Our sense of civic duty is usually strong . . . (Source)

Abraham Lincoln and Rosa Parks are both Aquarius Sun, Capricorn Moon natives who, similar to Mike Ruppert, exhibited very well developed “senses of civic duty” coupled with the “brave advocacy of fresh ideals” regarding community affairs.

Ruppert has a few other astro-twins worth “re”-visiting during this retrograde period. The first is the 1988 film Stand and Deliver starring Edward James Olmos as the revolutionary high school math teacher Jaime Escalante. Using its premier at the 1988 Miami Film Festival as its date of birth, the film is an Aquarius Sun, Capricorn Moon just like Mike Ruppert, Abraham Lincoln, and Rosa Parks. (Chart)

Ruppert’s other Aquarius Sun, Capricorn Moon astro-twin worth mentioning is musician, mystic, and multi-faceted troublemaker Henry Rollins. (Chart) A legend in the punk rock scene, Rollins has made a near second career out of advocating for revolutionary causes. According to his Wikipedia entry, “Rollins has campaigned for various political causes in the United States, including promoting LGBT rights, World Hunger Relief, and an end to war in particular . . .” (Source) Here’s a video of Rollins going off on Halliburton style privatization in a manner very similar to many of Mike Ruppert’s lectures:

Astrologer Jefferson Anderson tell us that Aquarius Sun, Capricorn Moon natives, “often have a gleam in their eyes that hints at either genius or madness.” (Source) Whether risking your big-gig tv show speaking out against Halliburton like Henry Rollins did or risking your life blowing the whistle on CIA narcotics trafficking like Mike Ruppert did, you’d have to be a bit “mad” to do some of the things natives of this pairing often end up doing.

Mercury Retrograde in Leo: The Original Catwoman Speaks Out

We’re in the middle of a Mercury Retrograde in Leo, the sign of the lioness so it’s fitting that Leo Sun legend Julie Newmar – the original Catwoman – has made a “re”-appearance to discuss the current Catwoman as portrayed by actress Anne Hathaway:

The all-black Catwoman get-up was very Scorpio in its aesthetic but Newmar herself was totally Leo in terms of her vibe both in and out of character. Check out the second photo from the top here. More recently she donned a Catwoman like costume at age 74 and still rocked it like the total lioness she knows she is.

Leo is considered the sign most likely to go into acting as they love being on stage. Even those Leos who aren’t cast in the leading role will find a way to “steal the scene”, as the saying goes. Newmar writes of her scene-stealing portrayal of Catwoman as follows:

“Of course Catwoman is more popular than Batman,” Julie Newmar, who played the character in the 1960s TV series, tells The Post. “Catwoman’s her own boss, she makes up her own mind. Catwoman will go on just about forever.”(Source)

Leo is also the sign of royalty so it’s no surprise Newmar lets you know on her website that she truly is American royalty. From her site’s biography page, “As an eleventh generation American and a Mayflower descendant, Julie Newmar has beauty, brains and a charming sense of humor.” (Source)

Like benevolent monarchs, Leos can be quite generous. They will give of their time, energy, or advice as freely as the Sun gives of its light and warmth. In Newmar’s case she just published an advice book entitled The Conscious Catwoman Explains Life on Earth where, like Leo’s ruler the Sun, she shines on light on a wide variety of issues. The book is available at her website alongside some lovely photographs that come, in true Leonine lioness fashion, autographed by Mrs. Newmar herself.

Astrology News Commentary: Thursday July 26th, 2012

A few times a month I do an Astrology News Round Up of articles classified by astrological transit. Some articles are very easy to classify as being associated with a certain planetary transit. Others involve multiple ones and are more difficult to pin down. I save the more difficult ones for periodic Astrologer News Commentaries. Feel free to agree, disagree, or discuss the classifications in the comments section. -Matt

Facebook is Monitoring Your Chats for “Criminal Behavior”

This was is right off the bat obviously Pluto in Capricorn but also the conjunction of South Node (karmic past) with Venus (love/seduction) and Jupiter (good fortune, too much of a good thing) in Gemini, the downside of which is “excess connectivity”.

TechPP.com: How the NSA Algorithims See Into Your Mind Before You Do

If you want to know just how advanced this stuff is make sure to check out this article from 2007 at which point the Pentagon was already running simulations on all 6.5 billion people on the planet. (Yes, all 6.5 billion) That was five years ago, imagine what they can do now.

Wired: Russia’s Top Cyber Sleuth Foils U.S. Spies, Helps Kremlin Friends

This has Pluto (destruction) in Capricorn (status quo) square Uranus (innovations) in Aries (warfare) on it most obviously but also Mars in Libra as it relates to “balance of power” issues. Sputnik, for instance, has a Sun/Mars/Jupiter conjunction in Libra in its chart and it was what set off the a 50 year fight over the balance of power between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R.

Wired: Sudden Melting of Greenland Ice Sheet Has Scientists Alarmed

Again, the Uranus/Pluto square as Uranus relates to shocking developments and Pluto in Capricorn (structures) relates to geologic structures as much as financial/political ones. Tectonic plates are obviously under the domain of Capricorn, I suppose ice sheets which take thousands of years to form could be considered similar. Neptune in Pisces also comes into play here as Neptune dissolves boundaries in whatever sign it moves through. In Pisces it dissolves boundaries on the ocean itself. The melting will also allow oil companies to get at oil that has previously been impossible to get to because of the ice. The first modern oil well (“Drake’s Well”) was drilled in Pennsylvania last time Neptune went through Pisces.

Wired: Skydiver Hits Record of 536 MPH Jumping from 18 Miles Up

This has North Node (destiny) in Sagittarius (high adventure, new frontiers) all over it with some nice added buzz from Uranus (innovations in Aries (the daredevil).

The Atlantic: Scholars Uncover 1670s Version of Twitter (No Joke)

Ha! This has the current pile up in Gemini (chatting, gossip) and North Node in Sagittarius (publishing, scholarship) all over it but as it pertains to the “re”-publishing of previous material it’s also very much in line with the spirit of the current Mercury Retrograde in Leo.

Style Blazer: 15 Actors Who are Straight but Play Gay or Vice Versa

We’ve got Venus/Jupiter/South Node all in Gemini, which is symbolized by the Twins and the sign most likely go both ways.

NY Times: DNA and Fossils Tell Differing Stories of Human Origins

As Gemini is symbolized by the Twins it is also thought by many astrologers to be the sign associated with the double helix DNA. So this one has the current pile up in Gemini all over it along with the North Node in Sagittarius (scholarship). Digging up old fossils are definitely the domain of Pluto in Capricorn as Pluto unearths things while Capricorn pertains to anything old such as the geologic record.

UK Telegraph: South Korean Artist to Launch Home Made Space Satellite

“Ohhhh hells yeah bitch!” my Aries Moon says to this one. Obviously it’s got North Node in Sagittarius (adventures) with a wide but valid trine from Uranus (innovations) in Aries (the do-it-yourselfer) all over it. The Uranus/Pluto square is also visible here as you can bet the establishment (Capricorn) is going to want to crack down on DIY space satellites. Throw in Mars in Libra as it definitely shifts the balance of power away from centralized power structures and back to the people.

Cancer Sun, Leo Moon: The Drama Queen, The YouTube Star, and the Silent Era Movie Sensation ("A small town girl sprints to the big city, hurdles her way into everybody's hearts")

Cancer Sun, Leo Moon individuals have a real knack for drawing attention to themselves. Being the sign of emotional intelligence, Cancer has a real knack for intuiting the tides of public sentiment in much the same way a crab intuits the tides of the ocean. As the entertainer of the zodiac, Leo is at its best when on stage performing for an adoring audience. Tom Cruise, for instance, is a Cancer Sun, Leo Moon whose ability to attract attention to himself never ceases to amaze. (Chart)

Astrologer Bill Tierney writes of the Cancer/Leo pairing, “When the social atmosphere is right, expect a colorful, vibrant personality to shine.” (Source) Some of Cruise’s recent escapades have been perhaps a bit too dramatic but his rendition of “You Lost that Loving Feeling” in the 1986 film Top Gun is an absolutely shining example of this pairing’s potential for vibrant, colorful forms of self-expression:

Michelle Jenneke, the 19 year old Australian sprinter who recently did for women’s hurdling what Neil Armstrong did for space travel, is also a Cancer Sun, Leo Moon. (Chart) She too has managed to attract attention to herself albeit using methods much more conducive to a sense of psychological equilibrium than some of the recent antics of her couch-hurdling astro-twin. If you haven’t yet come across the viral video of Mrs. Jenneke that blazed across the internet during the summer of 2012 it’s 1,000% worth the time to watch it all the way through to the end. From start to finish it’s three minutes and seven seconds of totally unabashed amazing awesomeness and, in its own way, as entertaining an expression of the Cancer/Leo capacity for theatrics as Cruise’s rendition of “You Lost that Loving Feeling”:

Michelle Jenneke from Losse Veter on Vimeo.

Astrologers Suzi and Charles Harvey tell us that a metaphoric image for the highest expression of Cancer Sun, Leo Moon is “A child ventures forth from her family to seek her greatness.” (Source) Is that ever an excellent approximation of Michelle Jenneke. A Cancerian who, from the looks of this circa 2010 video is still very much attached to home and family, she has managed to find her greatness in a very big, very bright, very Leonine Moon way.

Her North Node (destiny, truest path forward) is in Sagittarius, the Centaur-Archer of the Zodiac who roams free like a wild horse. In medical astrology Sagittarius rules the hips, the primary muscles that a hurdler uses to get over those hurdles and down the track. Talk about somebody “living their chart”.

Her Mars is at 29 degrees Leo, a fantastic placement for sports. Mars indicates how a person fights, how they execute a plan and is the primary indicator of a person’s athletic abilities. When placed in Leo, the sign of the lioness, Mars competes as ferociously as its animal totem. Astrologer Raven Kaldera associates Mars in Leo with the myth of Sekhmet, the Egyptian lioness goddess who doubled as the ancient world’s version of a movie star:

In this placement, Mars the Warrior combines with the solar force of Leo the Lion, and this can be an overwhelming combination of fire and sun, explosion and brilliance. It can light the sky, bring down the walls, or blow everything to pieces. Here we honor the Egyptian lioness goddess Sekhmet, whose name means “powerful.” Fierce and gracious, regal and deadly, she was usually shown as a lioness-headed woman sitting on a throne.

A Mars in Aries may be content with being the head of the parade; a Mars in Leo needs the adulation of the crowd as well. This need to be seen comes out of a Mars in Leo with all the melodrama of a silent movie star. (Source)

Mars in Leo is also great at performing in front of crowds or coming up big in the clutch. New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter, nicknamed “Mr. November” for his ability to perform under the pressure of the post-season, is a Cancer Sun with Mars in Leo and North Node in Sagittarius just like Jenneke. (Chart)

Jeter’s also done pretty well financially by way of endorsement deals and it’s hard to imagine Jenneke won’t be offered similar opportunities. Cancer Suns love having money in the bank as it is a proxy for the emotional security they seek. Leo Moons are also quite fond of it although they’re more likely to spend it on throwing awesome parties for their friends (their entourages) than hoard it at the bank. Assuming she gets some good people around her and find a balance between the Cancerian desire to save and the Leonine impulse to spend she’s off to the races now both literally and figuratively.

Today's Full Moon in Capricorn: Multiple Astrological Similarities to the Amistad Slave Revolt

Today’s full moon at 12 degrees Capricorn bears a number of astrological similarities to the voyage of La Amistad, the Spanish slave ship whose “cargo” decided they weren’t going silently into the night. If you’re not familiar with the mutiny on board the Amistad and the subsequent Supreme Court case that decided the fate of the survivors, Steven Speilberg’s 1997 historical film Amistad will give you the Hollywood version of events. The film was made with an eye towards making sure white people left the theater feeling good about themselves but for the purposes of this post it’s a good enough summary for those who may be unfamiliar with the story:

Here’s the chart for the Amistad voyage. Here’s the chart for today’s full moon at 12 Capricorn. You’ll notice the following similarities:

Today’s full moon: Sun at 12 degrees Cancer, Moon at 12 degrees Capricorn
The Amistad: Sun at 5 degrees Cancer, Moon at approximately 13 degrees Capricorn

Today’s full moon: Mars (fighting) at 0 degrees Libra (balance of power)
The Amistad: Mars (fighting) at 0 degrees Libra (balance of power)

Today’s full moon: Pluto at 8 degrees of a cardinal sign (Capricorn)
The Amistad: Pluto at 18 degrees of a cardinal sign (Aries)

Today’s full moon: Jupiter in the early degrees of an air sign (Gemini)
The Amistad: Jupiter in the early degrees of an air sign (Libra)

Uranus (shocks) in Aries (fires, explosions) is a major player in today’s full moon chart. Uranus (shocks) was in Pisces (oceans) when the Amistad launched, a very different placement that is much more about diffusion than explosions. Uranus was, however, conjunct the North Node (destiny) in the chart of the Amistad voyage so there was a major Uranian (shocking) component to that chart similar to the chart for today’s full moon.

The Mars at 0 degrees Libra is the lynchpin in both charts, in my opinion. People often think of Mars in Libra as “The Peacemaker” but that’s not quite accurate. When Mars is in Libra (the scales of justice), the martial fighting spirit of Mars is invested in fighting to restore balance of power between the races, genders, and economic classes. It also comes up a lot in the charts of people or events that involve fighting (Mars) between equals (Libra). Mixed Martial Arts superstar Gina Carano, for instance, has Mars in Libra.

As far as how this full moon will affect you: take a look at where 0 degrees Libra sits in your chart. That will be the house where balance of power issues will be coming up. (Do try to keep matters more peaceable than Mrs. Carano did in Haywire.) Then take a look at the house where 12 degrees Capricorn sits as that will be where something is coming to a culmination or ending.

Libra Sun, Capricorn Moon: The Lawyer, the Client, and the Player-President

(Image: Bobby Seale circa 1971, via Wikimedia)

Libra is the Lover, the Artist, the Peacemaker, the Diplomat, the Statesmen, the Counselor, and the Art Collector. This is the sign most associated with fairness, elegance, civility, beauty, aesthetics, and social harmony, as well as being considered the sign of marriage and 1-to-1 partnerships. Known for its natural sense of style, Libra is the sign most likely to have a walk-in closet for its elegantly tailored wardrobe and a bottle of Chanel #5 on its dresser drawer. Don Cornelius, the founder and producer of the television show Soul Train, is a Libra Sun who represented well the stylish ways and smooth sociability of this diplomatic sign. (Chart)

Libra is symbolized as the scales of justice which must be continually balanced. This is why you’ll find a disproportionate number of famous lawyers or justice-seekers born under this sign. Johhnie Cochran and John Lennon, for instance, are both Libra Suns.

Capricorn, sitting 90 degrees from Libra, is the sign of the Chief Executive, the Prime Minister, the Authority Figure, the Strategist, the Tycoon, and the Public Administrator. When a person’s Moon (emotional needs) is in Capricorn they are emotionally nourished by endeavors that require long term planning, strategic decision making, and near superhuman levels of self-discipline. It’s for this reason a disproportionate number of both army generals and leading men have their Moons in Capricorn. George Patton, George Clooney, Norman Schwarzkopf, Napolean Bonaparte, Lucille Ball, and the Whole Foods Corporation are all Capricorn Moons who have represented this lunar placement’s capacity for hoof-busting hard work and aptitude for the building of empires.

Capricorn and Libra form what’s known as a “square” aspect. Signs that square each other tend to knock heads as the goals, values, talents, and fears of each are inherently in conflict with the other. Consider, for instance, the differences between the textbook Libra and the textbook Capricorn. Libra values diplomacy and partnership while Capricorn values status and achievement. Libra’s demeanor is friendly and sociable while Capricorn’s is all business, no-nonsense. Libra wants to go out for a romantic night at the theater, Capricorn feels obligated to stay late at the office. Libra’s big challenge is being too passive, Capricorn’s big challenge is working too damn much. Libra fears being alone, Capricorn fears being poverty-stricken.

Libra Sun, Capricorn Moon: Social Savvy Meets Business Savvy

Now the two of them do have some things in common. They both, for instance, love designer labels. Libra Sun loves them because they make him look good, Capricorn Moon loves them because they indicate she’s achieved the success necessary to afford them.[caption id=”attachment_4102″ align=”aligncenter” width=”300″ caption=”Libra loves stylish threads and Capricorn loves status symbols. Both love designer labels.

More importantly, they both love order. Libra loves order in the social arena while Capricorn loves order in the business arena. That’s why the Libra Sun/Capricorn Moon pairing is excellent for management as it combines Libra’s social savvy with Capricorn’s business savvy. Libra knows how to keep its employees happy and cooperative while Capricorn knows how to keep them organized and on-task.

Libra Sun, Capricorn Moon: Ambition Never Looked So Fine

Hollywood Golden Era actress Joan Fontaine is a Libra Sun, Capricorn Moon. (Chart) Her rise to the top of the film business is a good example of how to get these two signs working together. Fontaine was a struggling young actress when she managed to sit herself next to producer David O. Selzneck at a dinner party. The two began discussing literature and next thing she knew Selzneck asked her to audition for the film Rebecca. According to Wikipedia, Fontaine then “endured a grueling six-month series of film tests, along with hundreds of other actresses, before securing the part some time before her 22nd birthday.” (Source)

Note how her success resulted in equal parts from who she positioned herself next to at a social gathering (Libra) and her ability to endure a grueling work schedule (Capricorn). She displayed Libra’s ability to charm while dining with the producer, then deployed Capricorn’s ability to grind while out-working the competition. By blending Libra’s social skills with Capricorn’s nose-to-the grindstone mentality, Fontaine was able to invest the stress of a tough Sun/Moon pairing into launching a career that ultimately spanned 54 years. The tension inside between her solar and lunar selves on inside her was probably key to her success within the ultra-competitive environment around her.

Actor Michael Douglas is a Libra Sun, Capricorn Moon well known in Hollywood circles for both his sociability and work ethic. (Chart) His role as the chief executive (Capricorn) seeking an equal partner (Libra) in the 1995 film American President is a nice, if idealized, projection of the Libra/Capricorn square:

Gavin Newsom, the former mayor of San Francisco known as much for his string of relationships as for his support of gay marriage, is also a Libra Sun, Capricorn Moon. (Chart) People with the same Sun/Moon pairing (“Astro-twins”) often bear a impossible to dismiss resemblance to each other even if they’re not related by blood. As a number of commentators have noted, Gavin Newsom bears an impossible to dismiss resemblance to Michael Douglas:

Curiously enough, Newsom’s rise to the top of California politics mirrors Joan Fontaine’s rise to the top of the film business. Newsom’s had to grind as much as any politician but he’s been helped tremendously by the fact his father is best friends with Gordon Getty. Getty, an elite Wall Street magnante, has opened doors for Newsom in much the same way elite Hollywood producer David Selzneck opened doors for Joan Fontaine. (Source) Newsom has also benefitted from a number of relationships with very high profile women. His first wife, Kimberly Guilfoyle, worked her way through law school as a Victoria Secret model while his current wife, Jennifer Siebel, is a well known Hollywood actress. As you can see, there is good reason why astrologer Jefferson Anderson refers to Libra Sun, Capricorn Moon as “The Social Climber”. (Source)

Libra Sun, Capricorn Moon: Machiavellian Mastermind or Icon of Life and Liberty

Speaking of social climbing, each of the 144 Sun/Moon pairings has it’s own dark side. Libra’s dark side is associated with vanity and social positioning while Capricorn’s dark side is associated with ruthless pursuit of status. Imagine a person possessing the instincts of Machiavelli and the wardrobe of Louis Vuitton and you’ll get a sense of this pairing’s modus operandi when it turns to its shadow side. Jefferson Anderson tells us that the Libra Sun, Capricorn Moon native has the potential to become “just another Iago” should they use their skills for selfish purposes. (Source) “Iago” is widely considered to be Shakespeare’s most evil villain, famous for engaging in some of the most ruthless social positioning schemes imaginable. (Source) Disgraced U.S. Army Colonel Oliver North, the Machiavellian mastermind of Iran Contra, is a Libra Sun, Capricorn Moon. (Chart)

Which brings us to a Libra Sun, Capricorn Moon individual who is to Oliver North what matter is to anti-matter. Bobby Seale, founder of the Black Panther Party, is a Libra Sun, Capricorn Moon. (Chart) Most (white)

Ecologically, Libra is the sign of the autumnal equinox, a time of the year when night (black) and day (white) must exist in equal partnership with each other. Capricorn, the sign of the Authority Figure, is ruled by Saturn which in traditional astrological lore is the original agricultural CEO. (Source) Put the two together and you have somebody who can excel at the large scale organization (Capricorn) of legal/social systems (Libra). According to astrologers Suzi and Charles Harvey, the Statue of Liberty is a good metaphoric image for the highest expression of Libra Sun, Capricorn Moon. (Source) Bobby Seale is obviously not the actual Statue of Liberty but he is an icon for life, liberty, and hard-earned happiness, the honest pursuit of which is the highest expression of the Libra/Capricorn pairing.

Mars/Moon aspects are intensely combative aspects as they combine the emotionality of the Moon with the aggressiveness of Mars. According to astrologer Sue Tompkins, people with Mars/Moon aspects in their chart often grow up in extremely dangerous environments:

The person is usually used to feeling unsafe and is very quick to smell danger and thus cultivates speedy reactions and responses – the kind of reactions that can save lives.

The need to protect the self and more especially one’s family and others with whom there is an emotional bond is usually keenly developed with all Mars/Moon aspects. Not uncommonly, the family was threatened in some way in childhood, if not by anger or violence within the household, then by some threat from outside.

[. . . those with the hard contacts] may continually behave or believe as if World War III is about to break out. (Source)

The album Straight Outta Compton by the pioneering rap group NWA was released (born) August 8th, 1988. A Leo Sun, the album’s Cancer Moon is squared by its Aries Mars. (Chart) Watch the first 90 seconds of the video for the album’s cover song if you’d like to see an intensely vivid example of a very tough Mars/Moon contact:

You’ll find Mars/Moon contacts in people who have been abused, have inflicted abuse, and those who have done both. It will also be found in the charts of journalists who report/document abuse which is essentially what NWA was doing with Straight Outta Compton.

Mars/Moon conjunctions can be a bit easier to handle than Mars/Moon squares but not by much. Consider, for instance, this video of a crowd chasing away four police officers who were brutalizing a streaker far above and beyond what was necessary to subdue him. I ran the chart for the video using its creation date as its date of birth and it includes a Mars/Moon conjunction in early Libra, the sign most associated with the justice system:

The police officers are a stand in for the lowest expression of a Mars/Moon conjunction in Libra: a nasty, brutal, and swift disposition of a form of “justice”. The crowd is a stand in for the highest expression of this aspect: fierce, fast-moving, and highly enterprising in the pursuit of justice. At its best, Mars/Moon in Libra is about fiercely fighting (Mars/Moon) for fairness. Watch the above clip closely and you’ll see that the one officer who admonishes his colleague to stand down at :31-:32 is the only one who manages to get away from the crowd unscathed — which seems a reasonably fair result all things considered.

If the Mars/Moon aspect is in Aries (the sign of warfare), it’s likely to be particularly heated. To illustrate: the latest installment of the Terminator franchise was released (born) on May 21st, 2009. The film’s chart sports a very prominent Mars/Moon conjunction in Aries. (See Chart) In the next clip, the T-600 Terminator is a stand in for the lowest expression of a Mars/Moon conjunction in Aries: nasty, brutal, combative, even murderous. The three humans are stand ins for the highest expression of this aspect: fast-moving, fiercely protective and highly enterprising when coming to the aid of one’s family. On the metaphoric level it’s not too much of a stretch to compare the T-600 to a violently corrupt police force such as the Rampart division of the LAPD. The film’s post-Apocalyptic setting could certainly be analogized an urban war zone like South Central Los Angeles while the three humans are essentially members of a defacto family not all together different from NWA:

Obviously that scene is from the imaginal world of film but people with this aspect in their chart will likely relate to it as a good metaphor for how they experienced childhood. They may not have been fighting a psychopathic cyborg but they likely did live within a home that felt like an emotional battleground.
